The AS50 is the last weapon you'd expect to pick up on the battlegrounds of MW3. But, that's not because it's a "bad" weapon. After some close scrutiny, I've identified three things you probably don't know about the AS50:

I prefer the AS50. I don't snipe often but when I do I use the AS50. For me it seems to be the most balanced sniper in the game. That statement being based off of damage, range, mobility, mag size, and rate of fire.

I use the AS50 a lot with a holographic sight, excellent weapon for sniping and using machine pistols as secondary weapons!

I think the AS50 has just as much accuracy as the msr but quicker. But I myself am a barrett 50cal user, out of all the snipers I get the most out of the Barrett. With extended mags you hardly have to reload.
